In this highly supportive and energizing space, surrounded by the works of extraordinary writers and artists curated by Janifer Wilson and daughter Kori Wilson in the only African-American Woman Owned Bookstore in Manhattan, located in Harlem, holding it down for the community for 23 Years! Come thru and share Your Love and Light!
Open for Alumni from the NYC Crisis Respite System to Join us in the Community Room or on Zoom every 2nd and 4th Tuesday from 3-4:30pm. Writing on prompts that inspire like, “to understand me, you should know…” or “if I was in charge of the world I’d…” you will receive support to say it on the mic proudly and grow confidence in your courageous story! Poetry writing and spoken word for youth ages 12-17 at Sister’s Uptown Bookstore in Harlem. No experience necessary! Join us to explore prompts that inspire, music accompaniment with words, and selections from many great classic and contemporary authors whose books line the shelves at the only African American owned bookstore in New York City.

Uptown Team Dreamers Virtual poetry and spoken word workshops on Zoom supported by Poets & Writers, Inc.
Inspired by Amanda Gorman (Youth Poet Laureate and performance poet for the 2021 Presidential inauguration, and exploration of other contemporary youth writers, the Uptown Team Dreamers weekly workshop stimulates writing on poetry prompts during our weekly event. Also included is the opportunity to read their spoken word which further motivates youth in this dynamic series.
Second Friday every month Zoom into a poetry workshop live from Sister’s Uptown Bookstore. Participants join Zoom as we explore and write on a variety of prompts and read our poems in every workshop. Throughout Covid-19 this poetry workshop moved from a live event in the store to a virtual platform from the store. Hope you will join us to write and recite!
Poetry Speaks for Us Virtually for East Harlem Health Action Center Explore healing and empowerment with poetry writing and spoken word. A safe and supportive workshop where we learn how to creatively express our feelings and experiences. Music accompaniment offered for inspiration. Therapeutic fun for all ages and abilities! • Participants can join the virtual class via video or call-in number.
Please note you will receive the web link to join the virtual session the day of class.
Wednesdays: 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Participants should have paper and pencil, or access to computer for writing exercises during the workshop. • All are welcome for this energizing experience. •

Poetry Speak for Us offers writing and spoken word as a vehicle for creative personal and social change in a highly supportive atmosphere that fosters wellness and self-confidence.
Event Sponsor: NYC DOHMH Family Wellness Suite: A safe, welcoming and supportive space for women and their families to connect to community resources and city agency services for support. Visitors can get help avoiding eviction, enrolling in health insurance and finding a job.
Weekly writing and spoken word workshop, with music accompaniment sponsored by East Harlem Health Action Center for NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. During Covid-19 this on-site workshop moved to virtual platform to continue to support and inspire the community of East Harlem and beyond, via Event Brite.
